On Thursday, March 17th the Montgomery County Chapter of the Maryland Municipal League held their Annual Meet and Confer with the Montgomery County Council. To kickoff the meeting both the County Councilmembers and municipal leaders acknowledged the team work that led to the signing of Bill 2-22 earlier this week. The new bill will relieve residents who live in incorporated cities and towns from paying duplicate taxes for services. The legislation is the result of almost 20 years of work and negotiations. The bill will double the County’s reimbursement for municipally delivered services from $10.1 million for Fiscal Year 2022 to $20.5 million in FY23. The bill requires an 80 percent phase-in for FY23, a 90 percent phase-in for FY24 and a complete phase-in for FY25.

During the meeting the municipal leaders also heard an update from Montgomery County President, Gabe Albornoz, on the FY23 budget and priorities of the Council for the next fiscal year. The discussion included Thrive Montgomery 2050, public health, pedestrian safety, economic development, affordable housing, climate change and flood planning.
