Nicola Sturgeon says Cop26 will 'inevitably' pose Covid-19 transmission risk

The Queen (left, last week) will not attend the Cop26 climate change reception in Glasgow on Monday after spending a night in hospital for tests last week, Buckingham Palace has announced. The 95-year-old sovereign was due to travel to Scotland for the high-profile engagement at the Scottish Event Campus (bottom right) to greet world leaders from 120 countries including US President Joe Biden. Aides had hoped that the head of state would be well enough to lead the Royal Family at the summit, either in person or via videolink. And earlier today (centre and top right) she returned to work at Windsor Castle, where she is resting on doctors' orders, for the first time since last week. However, a Palace spokesman said the Queen has 'regretfully decided that she will no longer travel to Glasgow to attend the evening reception'. The Queen faced preliminary tests in hospital on October 20 during her first overnight stay at the private King Edward VII's Hospital in London in eight years, after she dramatically cancelled a two-day trip to Northern Ireland. Her Majesty, who will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee next year, has had a busy schedule since returning from Balmoral. Including her return from the royal estate in Aberdeenshire, where she spent the summer, she has travelled nearly 1,000 miles this month.
